We have always offered DE200 series products as complete kits that include a hydrophone, a headset amplifier (preamp), earphones, spectrogram software and a manual. However, sometimes you don’t need all of those items for your project.

Let’s say for example: you’re running a sea turtle conservation organisation that protects and monitors turtle nests. You may have 10 nests that you want to monitor. There are multiple ways to do this, but you’ve chosen to plant a hydrophone in each nest at the same time that you’re planting your temperature data logger. Placing the hydrophone close to the eggs guarantees the best sounds and earlier warnings that the eggs are maturing and getting ready to hatch.

On your beach patrol rounds, you simply plug in the amp to listen to each nest for a few minutes before moving on to the next one.

You don’t need 10 of the full units; just one DE200-8 unit with all the aforementioned items plus 9 hydrophones, and maybe a mobile phone adapter so you can record audio straight to your phone for reports back to your office. Or, share the nest sounds on social media.
